| Senate Bill 21-199: Remove Barriers to Certain Public Opportunities This bill would provide public benefits to anyone in Colorado, regardless of legal status. (think K-12 education, higher education, healthcare, COVID stimulus money, etc.) Most folks agree that our country needs more workers and that there are many jobs that go unfilled. This bill would open the floodgates for border crossers and would be a huge burden on Colorado taxpayers. It could devastate our economy by overwhelming our schools and our healthcare system. Are Coloradans sympathetic to the plight of Central Americans who are fleeing a horrible situation in their home countries? Absolutely! Can Colorado taxpayers afford to pay for their education, healthcare and any other public needs they may have? As Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman once said, “It is one thing to have free immigration to jobs. It is another to have free immigration to welfare.
