Sandridge Wins Top Honors on 2021 Liberty Scorecard

Neville and Williams Named Liberty Warriors

State Representative Shane Sandridge from House District 14 in El Paso County achieved the highest score of 96.2 on the 2021 Liberty Scorecard, produced by the Republican Liberty Caucus of Colorado. Sandridge edged out last year’s winner, Representative Patrick Neville of HD45 in Douglas County and Representative Dave Williams of HD15 in El Paso County. The Liberty Scorecard is a measure of each legislator’s voting record based on the principles of individual rights, free markets and limited government.

Of the 623 bills introduced in this year’s legislative session, 385 were included in RLCCO’s Liberty Scorecard. The libertarian-leaning group reads and rates each bill and records their position of “support”or “oppose.” When there are conflicting principles on a bill, the caucus issues a “no rate.” They compare their positions with those of each legislator and calculate scores. The scorecard includes final committee votes as well as Third Reading votes on the floor of each chamber.

“Our Scorecard Committee meets weekly during the legislative session to discuss new bills as they are introduced,” says Sue Moore, Chairman of the RLCCO. “We do our research and apply our metrics. We rate more bills than any other watchdog group in the state. We know that our positions are monitored by many legislators and that other conservative groups rely on our data when following legislation.

The Republican Liberty Caucus refers to itself as “the Conscience of the Republican Party.” “We’ve observed that some Republicans ignore their conservative principles once they’re elected. We try to hold their feet to the fire. We want them to know that someone is watching,” says Moore.
